Dr. Devin Fisher and Dr. Zack Bergevin are your Kitsap County dentists for CEREC® single-visit, cad-cam restorations.

What is CEREC®?

CEREC is a technology for restoring damaged teeth with crowns, inlays and onlays and the procedure is completed in a single visit at your dentist’s office.  Around 38,000 dentists worldwide use the CEREC method, producing some 6.9 million restorations each year.  In dentistry, the term CAD/CAM refers to Computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing of a tooth restoration. This process entails taking a digital impression or scan, designing the restoration on the computer (computer-aided design), and manufacturing the restoration (computer-aided manufacturing). A CEREC image acquisition unit with an intraoral camera, CEREC design software and a porcelain-ceramic milling machine or a printer are necessary to complete this process.

CEREC restorations are metal-free, and the high-grade porcelain-ceramic materials we use are extremely strong and long-lasting.  CEREC one-visit restoration technology eliminates the need for a temporary crown and a second appointment.

How does CEREC process?

In preparation for a CEREC crown your dentist will remove the outer portion of your tooth to accommodate the thickness of the crown.  If the tooth already has a filling, part of the material may be left in place to serve as a foundation for the crown.  During this chair side treatment, a thin layer of reflective powder will then be applied to your tooth and an intraoral camera will be used to take photos called the digital impression.  Using Computer Aided Design, the photo serves as a “map” to design your tooth’s restoration. Then, CEREC will use a diamond bur and disk-work to create your restoration piece out of ceramic – we keep our milling unit visible to our patients so if you want to watch your crown being made just let us know. Finally, the ceramic restoration is bonded to your tooth using state-of-the-art adhesive dentistry.

CEREC restorations are both beautiful and long lasting.
