How to Fend Off Discoloration

Posted .

Americans spend millions of dollars every year on teeth whitening. What can you do to avoid staining your teeth?

We all know that sweetened drinks such as sodas and even fruit juice can hurt our teeth and damage our enamel. Sodas specifically can cause a number of serious issues, including stains, because of their high sugar content; this sugar can become acidic in your mouth and over time wear down your enamel. Coffee can also stain your teeth, especially if you take it black, as do tannins in tea and red wine.

You could try avoiding these drinks to keep your teeth brighter; however, if you can’t or won’t give up them up, we recommend rinsing your mouth with water after consuming any of these drinks. You could also substitute white wines for red, although red wine does help reduce inflammation in your gums, which can lead to gum disease.

Most importantly, please remember to brush and floss after every meal.
