When Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Extracted

Posted .

In addition to pain in the oral cavity, there are some signs of wisdom teeth in need of removal that you can look out for. If you notice any of the following signs, or if the areas behind your molars are hurting or swelling, please reach out to us so that we can schedule you a visit to see our doctor as soon as possible.

One of the biggest indicators a wisdom tooth needs to be extricated is the growth of pericoronitis, a disease where gum tissue surrounds the partially erupting tooth, triggering infection and tenderness when debris become lodged. If you have pericoronitis, our dentist may need to extricate the gum tissue next to the tooth or the tooth itself. Another signal that a wisdom tooth needs to be removed is funny tastes, funny scents or pus in the areas nearby the tooth. Earaches, ear infections, and sinus infections are other additional symptoms that a wisdom tooth may need to be pulled.
